Fleet Week & Memorial Day

This past Friday I went to Fleet Week in Manhattan's Pier 88. It was great to go on some active ships and meet some of the men and women who are serving in the Army, Navy, and Marines. They greatly appreciated the turnout and support. I would like to point out that the US Armed Forces are Jimi Hendrix fans. How do I know? The words "Voodoo Child" were spray painted on the turret of a tank inside the USS Kearsarge. I would post a picture, but it is on my cell phone.

Today, I went into Manhattan via Staten Island and saw briefly some of the ships stationed in the pier over there. However, today's visit to the city was for the exhibit Bodies. For those who don't know what this is, it is a large showing of actual preserved bodies. It is great for those interested in the human anatomy in that the bodies are seen without skin and in everyday poses. I learned a lot from the displays about how intricate we humans really are. They also show various parts of the body, as well as body parts due to certain to disease. It is a little pricy, but well worth it and going at a pace to read everything and see everything, it takes between 2.5-3 hours.

What up Drum!
Off topic, but Voodoo child. Hendrix version was raw, and the original, but Stevies is still one of my top five to turn up full and enjoy. Funny, considering he recorded it at full volume.
Hendrix played like he was consumed by the music. As did Stevie. I saw Stevie play live and it was the shits, but it was during his drug and booze days. A friend of mine saw him play a smaller gig after his first album and was blown away.
