Theme Song

This question arises from one of Beak's comments and the Spanish "A Team":

****Choose your theme song****

I'm going to say my theme song is "Brain Stew" from Green Day.

Good choice.

I asked a similar question a few years ago on a message board I was moderating. It was 'What is your life theme song. The one that best describes your personality'. My answer is the same as the one I would choose for my blog.

I Won't Back Down, Tom Petty and the Heart Breakers. About 1976.

Damn drum, that is a tough one.
Warren, that song is from 1976?
Bought damn the torpedoes...fantastic album.
Drum, that question is going to make me think a while..[elijah}
Green day has come a long way, that band has got determination and passion..they stand alone in so many ways, the foo's to me have a lot of the same energy and talent. A lot of bands have energy but lack the song writing ability, but...what do Iknow [elijah]

Correction, it was 1979.

Sometimes the old dyslexicia kicks in. Lucky I didn't type 1676!

my e-mail is getting screwed up, i didn't know anyone commented until today, and i only got 2 things. sorry this is a little delayed.

warren:

i can't say much as i am not a tom petty fan, although i did preview the song it did seem like a good choice.

elijah:

green day used to be good. even though they might be respected now more than ever, i will definitively state that their last good album was 'international superhits' although i wish they added "the grouch" from 'nimrod' on that one.

punk rock is a generally simple style of music and that is what i liked about green day. songs like "basket case", "brain stew", "minority", "longview", and more were what made green day, green day. their latest album isn't as timeless as 'international superhits'.

the foo fighters are my favorite mainstream band because they are so damn good. their worst album, was 'one by one' and even that wasn't a bad album. the FF have some of the best rock songs ever made and one of the best musicians the world has ever seen in Dave Grohl.

I liked Tom Petty before he morphed into Bob Dylan. ;^)

And evidenty they are having some kind of problem with their email server. I think it migh be cured now, at least I hope so.

i had no clue petty was the one who sang 'free fallin' until right after i posted the comment.

on a second note, i think blogger's server was working today.

i use to love 'free fallin' when i was a kid. i still do. i also didnt know tom petty sang that though i dont think i really have listened to much him actually.

greenday kind of annoy me now, the american idiot album is kind of nausiating and the songs just so extravagent. i dont know, just not my thing. luckily the 15 year olds are digging it.

i think my theme song is "all i need" by air. its hard thinking of what your life song would be, but i always seem to be able to relate to this one.

'american idiot' is an album where i liked "holiday" the first time i heard it when i got the album, but it saddens me to see them go even further than what made them great. 'international superhits' is their best album bar none.

i only heard a small part of 'all i need'. it sounded like a mellow, acoustic chill song where you can have it playing in the background at a shindig.

"No doubt, a great rock blog, you should definitly find a niche in journalism or a band, cause you do know your shit"

a many thanks for the compliment on the blog. i do wish i was able to post more though. i love music, most of it anyways.

i think if i do any music (playing) related thing, it would be studio musician because i am not a very good public speaker/performer.

i was able to fix the link for your blog- the new url is pretty unforgetable, lol. i got to do it on beaks blog now.

btw, you still never gave your theme song.

if you saw the remake of 'godzilla', you have heard "brain stew". it's one of those songs that you could hear all the time,[it was played all the time before they took away free radio (a good post topic now that i think about it)] and not know who its by and then when you find out you go "oh, that was them?"

"..Maybe too commercial for you?"

i do abandon things when they become too commercial- an example is harry potter. i gave up after book 3 when it was evident they were trying to reap as much $$ as possible from other things.

'american idiot' was an album with no substance, at least for me. i judge an album by how good songs are melodically, lyrically, and the timeless factor of "will i listen to this in a few years down the road?"

"I am curious too hear what your into now."

recently i have been listening to some Tool and A Perfect Circle. James Maynard Keenan is a great talent who has been a part of now 2 amazing bands. the lyrics of each band are great and Keenan's vocals make the tracks stand out. also, i just bought 'Plans' and 'Transatlanticism' both by Death Cab For Cutie. they are actually a really good band with good, catchy melodies and nice lyrics. 2 totally opposite ends of the rock spectrum with Tool and APC verse Death Cab.

i still want to know what your theme song is?

"nothing personal meant by too commercial"

i didn't think there was. i just wanted to say that it is a personal belief. when anyone does something and it becomes something else (mainly when it becomes something just for the $$), that is when it is time to jump ship.

my suggestion for you is to download iTunes (its free). you don't need an iPod and you don't have to buy any songs. if you have music on your hard drive or cd's, you can organize it into your iTunes library for your listening enjoyment when you blog. you also can preview 30 second clips of music from their music store- something i do when i need to hear songs that i get inquiries about. is also has some free internet radio on it. if you do this, preview Death Cab's 'Plans'.

I've been listening to an unhealthy amount of Marilyn Manson lately, but I'd have to say my current theme song is "The Outsider" by A Perfect Circle.

I learned recently that the guitarist in APC was the guitarist for the Smashing Pumpkins, another favorite band.

BTW, happy birthday!

i don't think i will ever listen to marilyn manson again, once is enough for me.

great choice for a theme song. i've been listening to a lot of Tool and APC recently. Maynard is a great vocalist. like you i also recently found out Iha became the APC guitarist. i don't know why the first guy left from the 'Mer de Noms' album, but Iha did the recording for 'Thirteenth Step'.

Smashing Pumpkins were a great band. i know its cliche, but "Bullet With Butterfly Wings" was their best song.

thanks for the b-day shout out.

DM2K+1,

I like Marilyn Manson, but I'm a sucker for electronic noise rock.

Check out the Gish album by Smashing Pumpkins. By far their greatest album, with Siamese Dream being a damned close second.

Of course, you could forego all that emotional whiney stuff and jam out to The Art of Shredding by Pantera (Cowboys from Hell album).

Gotta love the iPod random shuffle play function. Makes for nice mood segues. One minute you're swaying along to some ambient trance techno by the Orb, next minute you're kicking furniture out of the way to start a pit for Mudvayne.

'Gish' was a pretty good debut album. however, the beats of the first, i think, 3 songs sounded a little repetitive. 'Siamese Dream' is a much better album in my opinion. i'd still take 'Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness' anyday. so many good songs.

'Cowboys From Hell'- great album.

RIP Dimebag.
